Welcome to Trikes For Life Excursions' weblog.
We are delighted to be entering our 5th year of providing an extremely unique outdoor experience. As of early May the weather has not really been our friend so we have diversified to reporting on "LUPINE". We will continue to do this, BUT the trikes are chomping at the bit to get their wheels spinning. Very soon now we will be talking about the trikes and the hikes as well! In the meantime, please enjoy our offerings on the weblog. Happy Trails.
7th Lupine Report from the North Shore of Lake Superior June 20, 2011
It's a real toss up as to what the lupine are doing and when optimal viewing along the North Shore of Lake Superior will actually be. THIS WEEKEND will not be too late BUT their real peak ( by my observations ) will be later than this weekend. We are predicted to have quite a bit of rain and cool days for the next few days so that should slow down their progress as well.
In the meantime, the trikes are itching to go NOW!
6th Lupine Report from the North Shore of Lake Superior June 7, 2011
Conditions have still been somewhat cool with plenty of moisture but, as you can see, the real action is beginning! Will do our best to keep you up to date more often....but if you need to, email us and we'll attempt to give you as close to a daily report as possible so you may plan your journey up the shore.
5th Lupine report from the North Shore of Lake Superior May 25, 2011
It has been a rather cold, windy, and wet spring up here along Lake Superior...and maybe the lupine are going to change their peak blooming time compared to previous years. To soon to call. June 27th last year was when it was all happening. Best thing to do is check back every week and watch the progress. DON"T LET THEM SNEAK UP ON YOU...and bloom without you being here! Shame, shame shame! By the way, be sure to check out Pioneer Crafts (where some of these shots were taken ) for some "lupine art" from local artists - then you can see them in bloom all year long. Now that's smart.
New Trike In Town May 18, 2011
Talk about CUTE! A little trike without a front tire that will let kids as small as 3' 7" be able to have the wind blow through their hair while REALLY enjoying the ride on a TRIKE!
Just hook up the "TRETS" (the little trike minus a front wheel) to any of our full-sized trikes...and away the family rides. The Trets has 7 gears and a three way seat belt/harness that allows not only safety, but a real nifty experience because this is not a trailer, it's a trike! It just has its front wheel removed so it can go tandem behind the in- control parent in the big trike. Yagotta see it!
4th Lupine Report from the North Shore of Lake Superior May 14, 2011
Guess what? The TRIKE SEASON has officially started as of Sunday the 15th! Beautiful, clear day which allowed us to go one way, with the wind, and both start and finish going downhill. Hope to now have as many trike reports coming in as lupine reports. Stayed tuned for both....
3rd Lupine Report from the North Shore of Lake Superior May 9, 2011
The lupine are doing great! They are now up to 6 inches tall and getting LOTS of moisture. Have done a bit of research and discuss my findings in the video...so enjoy. Last year they were pretty much in full bloom in this patch on June 27th. Please realize that further away from the lake they will bloom earlier, or if they are up close to a building and so forth.
As to the trikes, we have never seen them so anxious to get out on the trails. We are continuing to check out additional attractions and sure enough, we found another reason to get off the trail and explore! Will tell you about it at a later posting.
2nd Lupine Report from the North Shore of Lake Superior May 6, 2011
Try as we have, we, as yet, have not been able to move that jet stream farther north so we are a bit behind in getting to what some folks would call "real spring". The trikes, by the way, ( Trixie, Tracy, Travis and Troy ) are ready to go as we speak. Oh well, in the meantime, let's keep track of the lupine. Enjoy the video....and keep a watch out for the NEXT lupine report.

We now have our Rental Rates posted as well as all the things you may do off the trikes and bikes along the Gitchi-Gami State Trail. And the good news is that 98% of all the snow is now GONE! Still a bit chilly but nothing that the proper clothes wouldn't solve. Keep checking our site out as we still have more to be adding relative to our expanded offerings.

April 3, 2011
Forty five degrees yesterday and sunshine. Not so today with fresh snow on the ground. Hopefully another new page tomorrow but we were able to define our rates and say AGAIN how totally flexible our services really are.
Example: We have taken out basically "frothing at the mouth avid bike riders" and folks who were not able to ride a two wheeled bike any more for all sorts of reasons. EVERYBODY falls in love with these trikes. More videos of the trikes in action are being edited and will be up soon. Maybe tomorrow.
April 2, 2011
We were able to get up two more pages in the last two days but still have more to go. We will be showing you more about the recumbent trikes as well as potential new equipment that is coming for this season. Keep in mind that our primary venue is the North Shore of Lake Superior BUT...we are playing with the possibility of bringing the trikes to one of your favorite spots as well! Have any ideas? We're here to listen!
March 25, 2011
We now have one more page up relative to the Minnesota State Parks we ride through...namely Gooseberry Falls State Park, Split Rock Lighthouse State Park, and Tettegouche State Park. Gotta go back to work now! Hopefully more tomorrow.
